Norwich Swan Swimming Club

For the past two weekends the Norwich Swan Swimming Club has held its annual Club Championships at the Wymondham pool.  The three-part competition was especially heavily subscribed this year, with many more of the club's swimmers participating in the tougher 200m and 400m events.  As is normal practice, the swimmers were divided into different age categories, from 8 years and under up to 16 years and over.

By the end of the Championships Lily Jones (Age 14) won 11 gold medals followed by Cloudy Majtenyi-Hill (Age 11)-7; Peyton Ewbank (Age 8)-7; Laura Marzolini (Age 10)-6; Sophie Foster (Age13)-6; Emma Starling  (Age 13)-5; Roisin Marks (Age 15)-4; Rosie Howard (Age 9)-4; Clare Freeman (Age 16+)-3; Kia Murphy (Age 12)-3; Olivia Hornagold (Age 12)-2; and one each for Rachel Robinson (Age 9); Clarissa Davis (Age 14); Anja Finegan (Age 9); Ellie Bickerton-Jones (Age 9); Lauren Ramsbottom (Age 8); and Kirsty McRoberts (Age 16+).  Among the boys the top scorers were Allan McRoberts (Age 16+) and Will Grisley Age 8) with 9 each followed by Rob Davis (Age 14)-8; Fraser Ellis (Age 12)-8; Matthew Black (Age 15)-5; Charlie Grisley (Age 10)-4; Michael Abel (Age 13)-4; Thomas Matthews (Age 11)-3; Michael Jennings (Age 16+)-3; Daryn Park (Age 13)-3; Nathan Mitchell (Age 10)-2; David Lambert (Age 16+)-2; and one each for Richard Belton (Age 16+); Harry Ames (Age 9); Rohan Ewbank (Age 11); Niall Cole (Age 10); and Clement Moylan (Age 13).
What was particularly satisfying for all of the swimmers and club coaches was the high level of personal best times that were recorded in these championships.  The times are further improvements on what has already been achieved throughout the previous months, and significantly are not confined to one or two age-groups.  Rather the improvements have been registered across the full age-group spectrum, which indicates a strength-in-depth situation.
In common with most swimming clubs Norwich Swan will not be competing throughout the August holiday month, but they will be back in action on September 6th at the Thetford 'Sprint' gala, and will continue in competition until the end of the year.
